We are a professional, high-quality Internet service provider but our work is directed toward politically progressive goals. That direction is our priority and the focus that informs everything we do. While our staff is professional and highly competent, we are all real life progressive activists involved in all kinds of struggles in the non-Internet world. What kinds of services do you offer? Web hosting, email, mail list, on-line broadcast, database design, network development and just about everything else any provider offers except for connection services. We are also experienced web designers and database developers and we manage sites and databases for many organizations. We've been around for about 11 years and we are probably among the oldest progressive Internet providers in the United States and certainly one of the very few remaining and growing. How does your political perspective affect what you do? Everything we do is planned with a political strategy in mind. We design our services to prioritize their use by organizers and organizations in progressive movements. We work to do much, if not most, of our work in coalition with other organizations active in progressive Internet work. We actively spread information of importance to progressive people. And we design sites that allow people to maximize the use of the Internet and their own control of their site's design and content. We also write programs and scripts that help organizing and distribute them openly under the GPL rules. Do your politics mean that people are compromising on service quality? That's a question we get a lot and the answer is a flat NO. Not only are our services comparable to the best offered by commercial providers, but they're usually more comprehensive and better. That's because we are driven, not by profit, but by our political commitments and so we don't cut corners or do ONLY what's necessary. We max what we offer. For example, while most commercial providers will put as many sites as they can on a specific server, we will never use more than half the space available for web sites. While commercial providers routinely use a server until it's dying (of age or stress), we constantly upgrade and change our equipment so that it never fails for those reasons. Our equipment is up to date and state of the art ... always. We have a professional tech staff maintaining our network of servers and upgrade all server software as stable upgrades become available. We are good at what we do because we've been doing it a long time for reasons that are central to our lives. And we wouldn't have been doing it all these years if we weren't good at it.
