Creative Workplace Learning, originally Continuing Education Institute (CEI), is a non-profit organization founded in 1977 by Dr. Lloyd David. Over 10,000 adults have participated in its educational and training programs. CWL was awarded three national workplace literacy grants from the U.S. Department of Labor-two in healthcare and one in manufacturing. These model programs were showcased as a "Best Practice" at the 1999 Summit for 21st Century Skills for 21st Century Jobs, hosted by former Vice President Gore. The Adult Development Research Group at Harvard University studied CWL's Adult Diploma Program and published its results in NCSALL monograph 19*. This research was the basis for the book Becoming Adult Learners: Principles and Practices for Effective Development by Eleanor Drago Severson of the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
