The Roman Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh was established in Western Pennsylvania on August 11, 1843. The diocese includes 211 parishes in the counties of Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Greene, Lawrence, and Washington, with a Catholic population of 719,801 as of June 2008. The mother church of the diocese is the Cathedral of Saint Paul.
