Info
Estey Printing Company was established in 1954 by Bob and Ann Estey. Bob left his job at Johnson Publishing to take over the building (and presumably its contents) from the Miner and Journal. It was originally located at 1710 13th Street in Boulder. In 1955, the Esteys moved their young company to 1914 14th Street, and by 1959 the company was located at 1729 15th Street. Jerry Beaber purchased Estey in 1975. An employee of Estey Printing since 1960, he had been promised the first offer if the company was ever sold. Don and Marsha Hovde purchased Estey from Jerry in 1981. In 1984, they also purchased B. Franklin Quality Quick Printing to keep up with faster printing needs. In 1985, the Hovdes moved both businesses to our current location at 2005 32nd Street. Roy and Debbie Kullby bought the two companies in 1986. The Kullbys added a Heidelberg 229 2-color press to our equipment. In 1988 the Kullbys also acquired Lambda Printing and Mailing, which provided Estey with mailing capabilities. The company was re-named MailGraphics. However, trying to run three companies in two locations was quite a challenge, and MailGraphics was sold in 1990 to Rod Morphew. Bill Hayes, the owner of Hayes Printing since 1983, purchased Estey in December of 1998, merging the two companies, but operating under the name of Estey Printing Company. In 2004, we acquired a high-end drum scanner, Iris digital inkjet proofing system and Dolev 400. In October 2005 Estey purchased a Komori 528C 5 color offset printing press with a coater. Bill Hayes, Estey's current owner, has been in printing since 1974, when he worked at Boulder Printing. He established Hayes Printing Services in 1983. Our Production Manager, Dave Lowder, has worked for Estey since 1962. Bobby Fuller, our extraordinary Letterpress Operator, started perfecting his craft in 1955. He has been with Estey since 1997. Lisa Fuller, who can operate all of our presses, but specializes in running our Heidelberg 229, has been a printer since 1986. She came to Estey in 1988 from Lambda. Rick Marcolina, started his career in graphic arts as a silk screen artist. Working for screen printing and sign shops in Denver. Hired as production foreman for Gritz Visual Graphics in 1983 (screen printing) made the transition to bindery manager for Gritz-Ritter Graphics by 1990.
