In 2002, BVSD, through a community-based process, developed our New Century Graduate profile. The New Century Graduate profile identifies the knowledge and skills our community believes are critical in achieving the vision of BVSD graduates, "who have the knowledge, skills and personal characteristics that will make this world a safer, more thoughtful and more inclusive place in which to live." Last year, BVSD launched the first phase of construction as a result of the exceptional support of district voters who, in 2006, approved a $296.8 million dollar capital facilities bond program. How the bond funds are budgeted throughout the district was approved by the school board based upon the recommendation of the district's Capital Improvement Planning Committee. This committee, made up primarily of private citizens from throughout BVSD, drafted the bond project's scope and budget on a school by school basis. With the bond's passage, the Citizens Bond Oversight Committee was created to monitor our compliance with each school's construction plan and budget. This transparency allows residents to track projects through to completion. Bond project updates can be viewed on the BVSD website. Every school year is a time of challenge and opportunity as we serve our students' learning and personal growth. BVSD students are especially fortunate to live and grow in communities committed to supporting and achieving the vision of the BVSD New Century Graduate.
