The Network/La Red is one of the few domestic violence programs in the country that understands the difference between BDSM and abuse, and is dedicated to educating others about this difference. Throughout its 18-year history, this dedication has been evident in the organization's philosophy, publications, and outreach and education efforts. Over the past four years, The Network/La Red and NELA have collaborated on a special outreach program designed to educate other domestic violence programs, law enforcement officials, as well as people who practice BDSM about the difference between BDSM and abuse. The money that is raised during The Masquerade Ball funds support services to survivors of domestic violence. The Network/La Red provides these much needed services to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender survivors as well as survivors from the BDSM community regardless of gender or sexual orientation.
