The Center of Excellence in Biomedical and Marine Biotechnology is an academic-industry partnership of ocean engineering, marine biotechnology, functional genomics, proteomics and bioinformatics for the discovery, development and commercialization of new medicines from Florida's natural marine resources. The Center draws its expertise from research institutions including Florida Atlantic University, Florida International University, Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution, Nova Southeastern University, and Smithsonian Marine Station at Fort Pierce, as well as local industry partners such as Ixion Biotechnology, Nabi Biopharmaceuticals, Edgetech, Custom Biologicals and Sunol Molecular. Organizations such as the Enterprise Development Corporation of South Florida and the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County support the Center's economic development mission.
