SC MembersFirst FCU was originally established on July 10th, 1937 to benefit the Highway Department Employees of South Carolina. Our name at that time was Columbia (SC) Highway Employees Credit Union. Because we were encompassing the entire state, not just Columbia, in 1977 we dropped the 'Columbia' out of the name and we became SC Highway Employees Federal Credit Union. Our name today, SC MembersFirst Federal Credit Union was adopted in 1993, after the state legislature voted to restructure several state agencies, including the SC Highway Department, creating two agencies: SC Department of Transportation and SC Department of Public Safety. In 2001, we became a community chartered credit union, which now allows us to serve those that live, work, worship, or attend school in Richland County.
