Galaxy has been providing canine services to various government agencies for over 5 years, quantifying the capabilities of explosives detection canine teams and performing research and development (R&D) activities to improve canine team performance. Galaxy also has its own explosives detection canine program and maintains a canine training facility adjacent to the campus of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia, which has become the "test bed" for any new ideas that need to be tested in an operational environment. Also at this site are Galaxy-developed standard operating procedures, which dictate safe handling, storage, transport, and manipulation procedures for the high explosives needed to perform canine test and evaluation activities. Galaxy canine personnel have over 100 years of combined experience in training canines for detection work, obedience, and agility. We have access to and make use of the latest R&D information and continuously draw from expertise as certified narcotics and search and rescue handlers to develop tactical action plans that optimize canine team detection performance.
