Info
WDIY prides itself as the community public radio station for the Lehigh Valley -- an integral part of communications in our locale. Prior to the June Membership Campaign, advertisements for the station were placed in the Morning Call's "Go Guide" -- hope you noticed them. These ads brought the station to the attention of some members of the public who, after 10 years, still don't know that WDIY is a great "listening place" on the dial. WDIY and its programmers are very involved in promoting cultural, educational, and entertainment events. Graham Stanford, president of the Southside Film Institute was a guest on Lehigh Valley Discourse with Jim DeSousa prior to the film festival. And WDIY was featured as one of the student film documentary workshop subjects along with Tallarico's, Cleo's, and the Bethlehem Brew Works. And writer Alix Ohlin of Lafayette College was featured on "Musings" with her new book, Missing Person. On the music front, Otto Bost brought Robert Hazard to the June 13 edition of Acoustic Eclectic. You all know of Robert -- he wrote the song "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" which was recorded by Cyndi Lauper in '84. WDIY was also a stop for the annual Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Preview Tour, a group of emerging artists who are representing the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival during a series of shows throughout the northeastern United States, prior to the festival July 21-24. Otto continues to showcase both local and national folk artists. The June "Classical Connections" showcased live performances by three student soloists and a jazz quartet from the Lehigh Valley Charter School for the Performing Arts. Bob Cohen interviewed two members of the faculty who introduced the charter school to "WDIY Classics" listeners. This was an excellent opportunity for the students to experience the need to perform on demand -- when the engineer signaled "now". Yes, WDIY is involved in the local media scene. And with your membership help, it will stay there!
