The entire staff of University Veterinary Hospital would like to thank everyone who participated in our 2005 Holiday Toy Drive and helped make it more successful than we could have imagined. We collected almost 50lbs worth of toys(!) over only a couple of weeks thanks to the generosity of the community - some our clients, some just citizens who saw our flyer. This year, we teamed up with BOSS, or Berkeley-Oakland Self-Sufficiency, a group "dedicated to helping homeless, poor, and disabled people achieve health and self-sufficiency, and to fighting against the root causes of poverty and homelessness". BOSS operates several East Bay shelters and transitional homes, including two in Berkeley. Nancy Jordan, a representative with BOSS aided us in the Toy Give-Away on Friday, December 23rd at one of the Berkeley sites that housed both a shelter and transitional units. All of the children and their parents were told to "go for it" and enjoy. Being a veterinary hospital, after all, we were very pleased to see that the "Operation" board game was the most sought-after item from our collection! In addition to the BOSS families, we'd also like to thanks the local churches and houses of worship that also forwarded names of families in need to us. One such case is pictured here, where we were able to give just a little help and holiday cheer to Tahnyah B. and her kids. Every day, not just during the Holidays, people in our community need help and we are committed to continuing to do our part, however little it may seem in the grand scheme. After all, if we all did our little part, that would add up to something truly grand.
