Resource Careers, a relocation company, was created by Marjorie B. Shorrock and Catherine M. Lewis in 1974 as a not-for-profit career development and referral service helping college educated women identify and obtain careers in business. For more than six years, Resource Careers built relationships within the Northeast Ohio business community. In 1982 and 1983, Resource Careers conducted the Dual Career Study for The Cleveland Foundation, to examine the changing workforce and the emergence of the dual career family. The study served as a cornerstone for Resource Careers to develop the first Spouse Employment Assistance program in the country. In 1986 Resource Careers became a for-profit corporation and began to develop a nationwide network of service providers to assist spouses of employees involved in corporate relocations. By 1990 Resource Careers was offering programs for expatriate families relocating to the United States, beginning with British Petroleum in Cleveland. By the mid 1990s, Resource Careers had developed Global Destination Services, entering into its first major contract with a worldwide telecommunications company moving families inbound to the U.S. and into European countries, such as France and Belgium. Resource Careers' worldwide presence was further established in 2000, when it was contracted to assist Procter & Gamble relocate 200 employees from India to Singapore. Local service was provided to assist relocating spouses with opportunities and alternatives for employment. This service has been extended to include Job Search Assistance in major cities throughout the world. Since 2001 Resource Careers has been under the management of Resource Development Company, Inc., an executive search consulting firm headquartered in Philadelphia, PA. In May of 2004 Resource Careers acquired Options Resource and Career Center, Inc. of Houston, TX. This acquisition represented an important strategic step for Resource Careers, widening the scope of services available to customers throughout the U.S. and worldwide. The addition of Options, Houston, TX presence to Resource Careers, existing locations in Cleveland, OH and Philadelphia, PA significantly increased capacity and service capabilities. Resource Careers has evolved into a relocation management company which tailors services to meet the individual needs of each family, including new community orientation, home-finding, settling-in, assistance in adjusting to the new community (intercultural and language training), and assistance in conducting an effective, more informed job search for the spouse or partner of the relocating employee. In cases where a spouse is not legally permitted to work, Resource Careers helps by exploring satisfying career-related activities or Continuing Education options.
