Calmont Beverage Company
Info
Calmont Beverage Company was founded in 1941 by Silvio and Nevio Semprebon who, to slack the thirst of Vermont's unique community of Italian granite quarry workers, came up with the idea to bring barreled wine to Vermont, via rail, and bottle it here under the Calmont brand name (a contraction of California/Vermont). With the birth and growth of the ski industry after the War, Calmont shifted to distribution of fine wines from all around the world. Today Calmont Beverage is run by Silvio's sons - Thomas, President and Charles, Vice President, and the third generation of Semprebons is set to continue the family tradition. Calmont currently stocks around 800 carefully selected items with emphasis on limited production, estate-bottled wines targeted primarily to the on-premise and independent retail markets. In 1991, on their 50th anniversary, Calmont moved its operations from downtown Barre, Vermont to a new, state of the art office and warehouse facility at 308 Industrial Lane in Berlin, Vermont.
