Info
UnitedKingfield Bank was founded in 2000 by combining the resources of two Maine financial institutions, Kingfield Savings Bank of Kingfield, Maine, and United Bank of Bangor, Maine. Each of these companies contributed a distinct history and local financial expertise to this combined bank that serves the people, businesses and communities throughout the heart of Maine. Kingfield Savings Bank's history dates back to 1895 when a young attorney named Herbert Wing and a group of business professionals decided it was time for their town to establish a financial institution to service the banking needs of Kingfield residents, who were a day's ride by horseback to the nearest bank. During the Panic of 1933, when other financial institutions were going under, Kingfield Savings maintained a solid performance as a small community bank. In 1945, Wing, still continuing his role with the bank, managed to create an informal business approach that enabled quick and honest answers. Today, UnitedKingfield Bank emulates that direct approach to provide customers with the comfort and convenience of high quality banking, 24/7. Under the leadership of John Witherspoon, the small, modest Kingfield Savings Bank expanded to become Kingfield Bank as branch offices in Stratton, Strong, Bingham, Phillips, Rangeley and Farmington were opened. The bank's success continued to rely on providing personalized banking services to its customers. United Bank's history reflects the same commitment to serving local banking needs. Believing in the economic as well as social value of true community banking, prominent Bangor businessman David Means solicited funding from other local business leaders to establish United Canal Bank in 1975. United Bank remained focused on providing personal, commercial and trust services to meet community needs and development in Bangor. In 1995, Unitedcorp, the one-bank holding company and owner of United Bank, merged into Camden National Corporation. In 2000, as a subsidiary of Maine-based Camden National Corporation, Kingfield Bank joined with United Bank to form UnitedKingfield Bank. With Witherspoon's departure in 2002, Jeffrey Smith took the reigns first as Chief Operating Officer and, in 2003, as President of UnitedKingfield Bank. Headquartered in Bangor, UnitedKingfield Bank has 15 branch offices in Bangor, Bingham, Corinth, Dover-Foxcroft, Farmington, Greenville, Hampden, Hermon, Kingfield, Lewiston, Madison, Milo, Phillips, Rangeley, and Stratton. UnitedKingfield Bank's identity, A Heart of Business, the Soul of Maine(sm), reflects the continued commitment to delivering superior, personal customer service and supporting the economic vitality of Maine communities.
