Manko, Gold, Katcher & Fox, LLP ("MGKF") is an environmental and energy law firm spanning the full range of regulatory compliance, transactional, and litigation services entailed in these fields. We serve a client base ranging from small and medium-sized businesses to Fortune 100 companies. With offices in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, our geographic practice area is focused in the Mid-Atlantic region, however our clients are located throughout the country and operate throughout the world. We are also a founding firm of the Environmental Law Network, an organization of environmental law firms located throughout the United States and abroad, which further extends our ability to serve our broad client base. MGKF was founded in 1989 by a core group of attorneys whose experience is grounded in the emergence of the comprehensive environmental laws enacted in the 1970s and early 1980s. Today's firm consists of a seasoned group of partners complimented by an exceptional group of associates, technical consultants, and paralegals dedicated to keeping abreast of the global reach of environmental and energy law and serving a clientele with a parallel focus. Many of our attorneys have additional degrees in science, engineering, and land use planning, and others have served with regulatory agencies. Our litigators have backgrounds in commercial, criminal, environmental, and energy disputes before courts and administrative review boards in many federal and state forums. The links and drop-down menus on the left-hand side of this page provide more detailed information on our various practice areas and identify MGKF professionals who serve as primary practice area contacts. These practice areas cover the full range of core environmental media programs regulating air, water, and solid waste, where we chiefly represent commercial and industrial clients in addressing regulatory compliance, environmental and energy auditing, permitting, and enforcement. We also counsel these clients in addressing historic disposal practices that give rise to liability under federal and state Superfund and site remediation programs, as well as on a wide range of emergency planning and response, OSHA, and workplace exposure issues. A rapidly developing part of our practice focuses on cutting-edge matters that involve climate change and energy issues. Equally important is our heavy involvement in development-related practice areas including brownfield redevelopment and the regulatory programs dealing with water supply, coastal and waterfront development, and sensitive environmental and cultural resources such as wetlands, threatened and endangered species, and historic sites. The environmental aspects of real estate and corporate/commercial transactions and due diligence issues also receive significant attention. Finally, when disputes arise in these and related areas, our team of litigators applies its experience in litigation and alternative dispute resolution in matters involving cost and insurance recovery, toxic tort class action defense, citizen suits, and administrative enforcement, permitting, and regulatory appeals. Because environmental and energy law are quite technical, good legal advice is based on sound science. For that reason, we have established an in-house technical staff to assist clients in retaining qualified environmental consultants and expert witnesses, defining their scope of services, and obtaining cost-effective and timely results through quality management. Our attorneys work closely with our technical staff to provide clients with an independent perspective on relevant legal issues and the merits and strategy of litigating or negotiating toward a successful resolution of environmental and energy cases. MGKF is known for its professional, yet down-to-earth and collegial culture. In addition to encouraging the professional development of our attorneys, technical consultants, and paralegals, we have a strong tradition of encouraging participation in environmental, energy, and other civic programs outside of the office. The firm's professionals serve in many capacities such as adjunct professors at law schools; officers and board members of recognized environmental, energy, and community organizations; lecturers and course planners for numerous trial advocacy and other educational programs; and as elected and appointed governmental officials. Further information on career opportunities at MGKF may be found by clicking on our Careers link. Environmental stewardship is also an important component of our practice and our culture. We are proud of our track record with sustainability efforts, from having been recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency ("EPA") for our Green Lights program, to being one of seven pilot firms in the United States to help launch the Law Office Climate Challenge Program, a joint effort of the American Bar Association and EPA targeted at developing and implementing sustainable business practices in a law office setting.
