Texas Transit Association

The Texas Transit Association (TTA) was organized in 1986 as a non-profit professional corporation. TTA's membership is composed of the metropolitan transit authorities, small urban transit districts and rural transit districts in the State of Texas as well as associate members of private and public entities from across the nation. The TTA Board of Directors is elected from the general membership with five members each representing the metros, small urban and rural operators. Three members of the board are appointed from the Associate membership. Additional board members are appointed based on membership dues paid. TTA's Executive Committee is composed of its member-elected officers, including a President, three Vice Presidents, a Treasurer and the Legislative Chair. Public transportation in Texas is composed of: 39 Rural Transit Districts serving areas with a population under 50,000. 30 Urban Transit Districts serving small urbanized areas with populations between 50,000 to 200,000. 8 Metropolitan Transit Authorities served by metropolitan or regional transit authorities or municipal transit departments of cities with populations over 200,000. The Texas Transit Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit education foundation established in 2002 organized to promote public transportation in all its modes of transportation, conduct public policy and other research, and to provide professional educational development opportunities for persons involved in the public transportation industry. TTA publishes a monthly newsletter that is widely distributed to all transit operators, associate members, elected officials and friends of transit.
