Shield Networks is a Central Texas based Internet service provider. We provide basic dial-up service for residences and businesses. We specialize in helping hotels, apartment complexes and business centers to realize their full economic potential with high-speed connections and e-commerce web sites. We also provide network support services to include web site registration, hosting and development.In 1995 Wes Perkins, Chief Technology Officer, started Shield Communications to provide Internet connectivity and networking services to the Austin and Travis County area. Wes has a vast amount of experience in government systems, both the public and private sector. Wes has been involved in network systems design, support and implementation for the Internal Revenue Service, Electronic Data Systems, and several internet companies that are now in private placement.In 2000, Shield Communications was merged into a new company called Shield Networks.In 2000, Leonard Melcher, business consultant and investor, joined Shield Networks. Leonard is a visionary who has seen wireless technologies applied in practical circumstances namely the battlefield. As a member of the planning team for Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Leonard was heavily involved with the allied-forces logistics effort and will bring this expertise to Shield Networks during the build-out stages. Leonard's armed forces connections may allow Shield Networks entrée to appropriate recruiting processes on base. Leonard also has a significant background in computers and program management during his 27-year career in the United States Air Force.Further, Shield Networks expects to hire a significant number of technically proficient deployment teams and is looking to leverage the central Texas US Army base, Fort Hood, as a potential staffing resource.
