Info

The North Hays County Volunteer Fire Department offers a comprehensive training program that takes place for two hours every Monday night. We take our safety very seriously and believe that training is one of the primary keys to making sure that everyone goes home at the end of a call. The NHCVFD conducts training under the guidelines of the State Fireman's and Fire Marshall's Association. Training is overseen by a certified Training Coordinator and conducted by North Hays County Volunteer Fire Department Officers and outside guest instructors, many of whom are from the Austin Fire Department or other accredited organizations. In addition we regularly sponsor firefighter's attendance at accredited outside trainings, including the Texas A&M annual municipal fire school and many other area schools for firefighting, vehicle extrication and swift water rescue training. The North Hays County Volunteer Fire Department has set a minimum program consisting of 24 categories for a total of 112 hours as the criteria for achieving basic firefighter status. New volunteers are accepted on a six-month probationary status. Progress through the training program will depend largely on a volunteer's availability for training sessions on a regular basis.
