Pediatric Emergency Medicine Associates, LLC was established in February of 2000, but the origins of this group practice limited to pediatric emergency medicine extends back to 1984. Prior to that year Scottish Rite Children's Hospital recognized the need in the Atlanta area for a dedicated pediatric emergency room. Under the leadership of Dr. Joseph Simon, Atlanta's first free-standing, exclusively pediatric emergency facility was established in July of 1984, several years before our specialty was recognized with board certification. Initially staffed by 4 pediatric trained physicians with special interest in acute care, the service has grown to over 50 physicians and mid-level practioners. The majority of our current physician staff are Pediatric Emergency Medicine board certified or eligible. We manage over 100,000 patient encounters per year in three metropolitan area hospital based facilities. While we are aggressively expanding our research and education activities PEMA, LLC remains primarily focused on providing efficient, high quality medical care to ill and injured children.
