Mike Ayars founded Marathon Data Systems, LLC. (MDS) in 1984 with the focus of developing custom accounting software for business clients. In 1989, MDS introduced the company's first product, RoutePoint Software - an office management software system for pest management companies. That year there were 15 software companies active in the industry and exhibiting at the National Pest Management Convention. In 1995, MDS turned the pest management software business upside down by releasing the first Windows-based software package. The resulting shakeout, as companies failed to deliver a Windows-based product, resulted in only three companies left marketing software in the industry - with MDS as the recognized leader. Then, in March 2001, MDS did it again by releasing the first web-based software product in any of the service industries. Today, RoutePoint stands alone as the only web-based product available. Since 1989, every company large or small that has selected Marathon Data Systems, Inc., has enjoyed a fast and reliable office management system, combined with the leading technology and the best support staff in the industry.
