Info
Setting an industry standard for service and technical excellence, VAI serves a broad spectrum of clients comprising private industry and public agencies. Privately sponsored projects range from traffic and access planning for land development projects to environmental impact reports for regional shopping malls, and approval and permit acquisition for high activity centers such as multi-plex theaters, casinos, arenas and stadiums. Public sector efforts include parking and traffic feasibility studies; design of multi-location corridor and signal systems; and evaluation of mitigation plans for consistency with public transportation and capital expenditure planning goals. VAI was founded in 1990 by Robert D. Vanasse, P.E., a leader in the transportation engineering field with over thirty years of professional experience. Prior to forming VAI, Mr. Vanasse was a principal and co-founder in 1978 of Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc. (VHB), a 500-person firm and an Engineering News Record's "Top-100"-listed company. Mr. Vanasse is personally registered and licensed to practice in twelve states, has extensive professional working experience in public agencies such as the Federal Highway Administration and the Massachusetts Highway Department, as well as in private practice. VAI has combined innovative technology with responsive professional service to meet the needs of clients in private industry and public agencies. VAI employs a team approach to all transportation projects which optimizes service delivery to clients. After initial contact and project briefing, a member of the technical staff, based upon field expertise and experience, is designated project manager. This individual is responsible for coordinating the efforts of all team members and ensuring that timely, cost-effective, and high quality services are consistently rendered. All projects are overseen by Principal-in-Charge Robert D. Vanasse, P.E., for policy and strategy issues and by Joseph M. ,tupar, P.E. for technical approach and product accuracy. In undertaking large and complex tasks involving multi-disciplinary consulting teams, VAI may serve the client either as prime consultant or as subordinate member of the consulting team. In either case, VAI understands the importance of collective problem-solving, timely project turn-around, and accountability for project advancement. VAI brings a critical and highly specialized perspective to projects involving multi-disciplinary teams of architects, planners, and environmental specialists. Architectural and environmental firms with whom VAI has successfully collaborated include Earth Tech, Sumner Schein, Elkus-Manfredi, CBT, Arrowstreet, ADD, Inc., Sasaki Associates, Canon-Yan, John Crowe & Associates, Haley & Aldrich, Goldberg-Zoino and Fugro-East, Inc. VAI also provides highly focused transportation services to projects led by general civil engineering firms. It has worked successfully with firms such as VHB, Beals & Thomas, F.R. Harris, Bechtel/Parsons/Brinckerhoff, BSC Group, Rizzo & Associates, Anderson-Nichols, Daylor Consulting Group, Saivetz & Associates, and Allen & Major. VAI is uniquely adept at providing highly focused transportation services to general civil, architectural, environmental, planning, and engineering firms. Today's complex and challenging projects often require extensive interface between client, municipality, and state agencies. On behalf of its clients, VAI acts as liaison to agencies overseeing transportation and traffic issues, and helps navigate an increasingly complex network of local, state, and federal regulation. VAI's successful track record in working cooperatively with government agencies at all levels has helped clients realize significant savings in project time and effort. Projects today also receive increasingly intense public scrutiny at the local level. VAI is noted not only for its fine technical work but also for effective communication with neighborhood interest groups and municipal review bodies. Through cogent oral presentation and comprehensible graphics, VAI is able to successfully convey a project's issues and solutions to lay people and experts alike. All projects are supervised by Principal-in-Charge Robert D. Vanasse, P.E., who is the primary VAI representative at public hearings. VAI utilizes the most advanced Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) System in design and production phases of all projects. CAD permits a thorough exploration of design options, enables development and testing of numerous plans, and encourages selection of the most appropriate option. Through use of AutoCAD software, VAI's ability to communicate accurately and efficiently with consulting team members and relevant state agencies is enhanced. Moreover, VAI's commitment to advanced color laser technologies, electronic files, and disk format enables the firm to produce plans and presentation graphics unparalleled in the industry. VAI is headquartered in Andover, Massachusetts, with regional offices in South Windsor, Connecticut; and Fort Myers, Florida.
