The Andover Volunteer Fire Department provides the small, Eastern Connecticut town of Andover with Fire and EMS service. We are also members of the Tolland County Dive Team. Our territory includes one of the most dangerous roads in America; the 11 mile stretch of Route 6 from Bolton to Columbia, also known as Suicide 6. Don't become a Suicide 6 statistic. Please drive it with care. Time again for snow so here's a reminder. Be sure to shovel the end of your driveway wide enough so a fire truck (or ambulance) can turn into your driveway. And for those of you with those very long driveways, widen them more than a car width. Putting down sand and salt helps yourself and us get in. It's pretty sad when the ambulance is called to go into neighborhoods with houses that cost over a half a million dollars and we can't find the caller easily because there's either no house number visible or the number that is there is some cheesy, one inch tall, non-reflective, Wal-Mart special. Our friends, the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department, are offering inexpensive, well-made reflective signs for sale. The cost for the signs are $12.00 each. And any profit they make goes to the restoration fund for Hebron's first fire truck; a 1937 Ford. Samples of the signs are available at the Hebron Town Office, the Douglas Library, and Hebron Fire Station #1 on Main Street. Or drive by your Andover Fire Department.
