The following case histories are examples of Envirodesign's industrial wastewater services. Detergent Manufacturing Facility A detergent manufacturer interviewed several environmental consulting firms. The contract was awarded to Envirodesign to analyze waste products, identify contaminants, and determine how to remove the contaminants so that the waste products could be used as raw materials to manufacture finished products. Innovative use of available technologies (pH adjustment, chemical coagulation, phase separation and material collection) has allowed the manufacturer to eliminate all industrial wastewater discharge to the sanitary sewer, recover surfactants to use as raw materials, and reuse the treated wastewater as a water supply in product formulation. Motor Vehicle Manufacturing Facility A manufacturer of motor vehicles was planning to expand the production facility. Additional city water was needed for the parts cleaning and iron phosphate operations, but no water was available. Envirodesign evaluated the proposed expansion and existing wastewater treatment system to determine the feasibility of water reclamation from the process wastewater currently being generated. The results of the preliminary engineering study together with an on-site pilot plant, reverse osmosis preceded by activated carbon, filtration and pH adjustment was the most practical and cost effective solution. The water quality of the reclaimed water was better than the city water for production purposes. Detailed engineering drawings, equipment and construction was completed.
