JJMA was founded in 1957. The early years were devoted to the development of passive ship stabilization, marine containerization and bulk transportation systems. The company grew larger and more diverse, broadening engineering and design capabilities which included technologically advanced commercial, oceanographic research, and naval ships and craft for an increasing domestic and international clientele. Today, the tangible results of our achievements in advancing and applying new technologies to naval and commercial projects can be seen throughout the world's oceans and seaports. Our steady growth is a direct result of our ability to successfully develop and apply economical technical solutions to a wide range of engineering and design challenges in an environment of rapidly evolving technologies. Our design, engineering and project management support teams have developed complete contract packages for many of the U.S. and foreign ships scheduled for construction in the 1990s. JJMA has also expanded into the environmental services arena. JJMA Environmental, formed in 1990, is a major Directorate of JJMA, providing environmental protection and occupational health and safety services throughout the world. JJMA is a full service company which provides comprehensive ship and systems design from mission analysis and feasibility trade-off studies through contract and detail design, production supervision, testing and logistics support for the commercial and naval markets. Shipbuilding and ship repair clients have depended on our detail designs and engineering support teams to provide responsive and timely design and construction support for new ship programs, ship conversions, fleet engineer support, and for ship system modifications. JJMA also provides hazardous material control and management services, including pollution prevention, waste management, regulatory compliance, OSHA/EPA training, logistics research and analysis, affirmative procurement, and operation of hazardous material distribution centers. We provide value to our customers by ensuring that understanding and meeting their requirements is our primary focus. On June 29, 1998, John J. McMullen Associates, Inc. (JJMA) was purchased by the Management and a newly formed Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) Trust. As a result of this transaction, JJMA was a 100% employee-owned and -operated company. In April of 2005, JJMA became a part of Alion Science and Technology. It is now known as the JJMA Maritime Sector of Alion Science and Technology. More than just a change in its name, this new relationaship provides JJMA, its employees and its customers additional capabilities.
