Description of The American Shakespeare Project
The American Shakespeare Project is also committed to staging professional productions of Shakespeare's work (and that of his contemporaries) in New Mexico and elsewhere in the United States. Our artistic vision is both dynamic and flexible, governed only by the absolute principle that the conception or interpretation chosen for any particular production must serve the text and not vice-versa. It is a fundamental precept of this organization that documents such as The First Folio of 1623 hold the greatest weight in terms of textual authority and that tremendous benefits are to be derived for both performer and audience in following the dictates of period manuscripts. It is the fervent desire of The American Shakespeare Project to expose under-served New Mexico audiences to innovative incarnations of the timeless work of Shakespeare (and his contemporaries) and to reward the interest of existing audiences who appreciate and support classically-oriented theatre with imaginative approaches to their favorite works.
