Since 1994, PHC-REC has provided reclamation services of more than 6,000 acres of land disturbed by mining. Areas specifically addressed and mitigated included sites with extensive erosion, sedimentation of drainage's, production of acidic water, and extreme dust conditions. Waste dump slopes were typically 1.5H : 1.0V or steeper with little to no suitable topsoil available. PHC-REC utilized a natural soil system solution to establish vegetation at these sites. A container-grown tree and shrub seedling production program was established; biosolids were introduced as soil amendments; and specific mycorrhizal fungi and bacteria were utilized to inoculate tree seedlings, shrubs and grasses. Through PHC-REC's innovative reclamation program, the hazards were mitigated and the client's objectives were met. In addition, all regulatory compliance was achieved with local, state, and federal agencies and the client received three (3) environmental awards for reclamation.
