Khyber Technologies Corporation was founded in 1991 with intent to create the next generation of handheld computing products. Its founder Raj Kumar had previously led the R&D of Telxon Corporation (TLXN, now owned by Motorola though acquisitions) for 11 years of rapid growth and an IPO and developed several trend-setting products of the portable data entry industry and recommended a wireless technology acquisition, which later developed into a WiFi leading supplier and spun off in another IPO and subsequently acquired by Cisco. The Company determined early on that innovative form-and-function would be needed to deliver new capabilities as technology-convergence took hold in the field of portable computer and smart-phone devices. Accordingly, while doing business as a custom product development company, Khyber created a portfolio of patented form-n-function techniques for handheld digital devices. It began licensing its intellectual property (IP) from this portfolio to its customers and licensees, whose list has grown to include UPS, IBM, Hewlett Packard, Casio, Danger Inc, Symbol Technologies (SBL, now owned by Motorola), Telxon Corporation, PSC Inc., Socket Communications (SCKT), and others. In recent years, the Company has reorganized itself to concentrate on supplying licenses of its IP.
