Description of Southern Pottery Workcenter & Gallery

Southern Pottery features a balanced offering of both contemporary and traditional pottery, functional and decorative, old and new. In excess of more than twenty artists from North and South Carolina, Southern Pottery strives to develop new markets for both the southern contemporary and folk art traditions. Featured artists include Karen Newgard, Mike Vatalaro, Gay Smith, David JP Hooker, Donna Craven, Kim Ellington, Virginia Scotchie, Peter Lenzo, Fred Johnston and Sue Grier. Since the gallery's opening, several exhibitions have explored the line between the contemporary and the historical. Although every piece has distinctive traits and qualities, the gallery represents professional ceramic sculpture alongside the folk, or non-academically trained techniques.
