Description of Gateway Christian Church
GCC was started in June, 1973, by a nucleus of families that had caught a vision of what God could do through a congregation that was determined not to be limited in its growth by its site and facilities. They initially purchased 6 1/2 acres along I-270 between Manchester and Clayton and later added another 3 1/2 acres for a total of 10. The new fellowship met for six years in the Parkway Northeast Middle School and had its first service in its new facilities on its 6th anniversary in June, 1979. Additional educational facilities were added in 1981 and 1982. The latest addition, a 36,000 sq. ft. family life center, including a large, multi-purpose room serving as a new worship center, gym, and fellowship hall, as well as new offices, classrooms and a full kitchen was completed in 2002. Dr. Paul Newland, the founding pastor, has served as the congregation's Senior Minister since 1973. His family has a heritage of ministry. His father was a missionary and minister, he has a brother who is a minister and his four sons are all in the ministry. In addition to Pastor Paul, GCC has eight additional staff members. The GCC community is a vibrant, warm, Christ-centered church and we are excited about all that God is doing in our lives and in our world.
