An internet service provide or ISP provides internet access at various speeds (in Mbps), domain name registration, web hosting, colocation and Usenet services through its organization. ISPs use various technologies to connect users to their network. These can include telephone lines, wireless Ethernet (Wi-Fi), acoustic couplers and more recently fiber optics. ISPs are also called broadband providers. The largest cable provider in the US is Comcast, closely followed by AT &T, Tim Warner Cable, Century Link, charter, Verizon, Cox and Optimum. There are various types of ISPs with different roles including Mailbox providers, hosting ISPs, transit ISPs, virtual ISPs, free ISPs and wireless ISPs. ISPs may also connect with other ISPs at internet exchange points in a process called peering.
