The head of the embassy is called the High Commissioner or Ambassador. The office space in which all the diplomatic work is completed is called the Chancery. Missions between countries of the commonwealth are called high commissions, whereas permanent missions are missions to the UN. Ambassadors tend to be exchanged between foreign countries. The embassy protects citizens of the state in other countries. The embassy is responsible for the issuing of visas and other legal documentation when abroad.
