The Summerville Journal Scene is an award-winning community newspaper serving the fast-growing Summerville area twice a week. The paper is a combination of The Summerville Scene, founded in 1946, and The Summerville Journal, founded in 1972. The Journal Scene is located in the historic Crystal Ice House on East Doty Avenue in downtown Summerville. The Journal Scene provides coverage of Summerville and Dorchester County government. It also has an education reporter who writes about topics of interest in Dorchester District Two and District Four schools as well as Pinewood Preparatory and Summerville Catholic schools. A year's subscription is ,28 a year in state and ,43 a year out of state. An optional ,2 donation goes toward the Newspaper in Education (NIE) program, which encourages further reading in the classroom.
