KDA was founded by Wes Dean and Lee Koslowski in the winter of 1998 as an attempt to further their goal of working independently at providing quality software. After several web design projects were completed in and around Buffalo, NY, the firm decided to focus on providing strictly UNIX-oriented software. After leaving his engineering job at IBM, Wes Dean was able to incorporate the firm in the summer of 2001. Shortly after, Lee Koslowski was offered a management position at General Motors that he couldn't refuse. During the winter of 2001, KDA joined the Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce. Shortly after, KDA pulled in several projects which have helped KDA grow and have improved KDA's client list and portfolio. After lecturing independently for several years, Wes took on a teaching position at a local college where he has been teaching advanced computer courses ever since. KDA is continuing development of PTCompile, their flagship software package. Additionally, KDA is now working on a line of secure BSD servers and firewalls aimed at small to medium-sized businesses. Wes is currently the sole stock-holder and sole owner of KDA. He has been able to keep KDA debt-free and privately owned since it's inception. Wes is also the sole full-time employee of the firm which makes use of contractors to outsource a good deal of the work that Wes does not have the time or expertise to handle. Wes wants to provide the highest quality work possible, even if that means hiring outside experts. KDA is a high-tech, low-impact firm that provides superior UNIX-related software and servers with a minimal disruption of the local economy and environment. All of KDA's subcontractors work at their own offices connected to KDA's servers via secure Virtual Private Networks, thus are able to work with their tools without having to drive to rural Vermont; they are able to communicate with KDA through internal voice and video chat; they are not KDA employees hence KDA is able to operate without much of the overhead that traditional firms require. Thus, KDA is a model business based in beautiful rural Vermont.
