Jamaica Hospital Medical Center's Family Medicine and Community Medicine Residency Program is an ACGME and AOA dually accredited 30-resident program designed to train physicians who will be capable of providing comprehensive, state-of-the-art medical care to all members of the family unit in an inner-city setting. The Program places emphasis on the concept of continuity of care. The principles of preventive medicine and health maintenance are also of paramount importance within the educational framework of the program. Our residency program is up to date with the millenium. Each one of our residents and faculty members are privileged with unlimited free access to the internet, as well as access to one of the most extensive on-line medical resources network through the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine Levy Library. In addition, each resident is equipped with a Palm portable computer for documenting procedures, keeping patient logs, emailing on-the-go, and schedule keeping. We are committed to growing in every aspect, including cutting-edge technology and informatics. The program utilizes a web-based residency management program called New Innovations for evaluations, logging training experiences, conferences, and other educational materials. Jamaica Hospital Medical Center is located in Queens County (population 2 million), the most populated borough of New York City. We were the first institution to establish a department of Family Medicine to serve the people of urban Queens County. We were also the first to create an independent residency training program in the specialty of Family Medicine.
