An architect is responsible for overseeing the design, planning and development on buildings. Architecture is a profession of both art and science. In order to gain a license to practice, architects must complete their studies and then follow a strict internship providing practical training as architects’ decisions affect people’s safety. From an artistic side, they are responsible for the aesthetics of a building. Famous architects such as the European architect Gaudi (Catalan architect) who designed the incredible, yet unfinished Sagrada Familia, as well as much of Barcelona, leave their mark on the world by giving character to our cities. The term architecture also encompasses landscape architecture, naval architecture and the more modern software architecture.
