Frontier Technologies is a proven technology leader in open standards-based networking and has demonstrated the capability to reinvent itself and to quickly adapt to changes. This flexibility is a key factor in the company's ability to remain competitive over the years. Dr. Prakash Ambegaonkar founded Frontier Technologies in 1982. The Company's first product, Ad-Com controller, a unique advanced serial communications controller, was developed for IBM's early personal computer. During its infancy, the Company was able to win this multi-million dollar contract from IBM by demonstrating technical and management excellence and strict compliance to IBM standards. The Ad-Com controller was used so extensively in the National Security Agency, Air Force, Army, and other government agencies and departments that it became well known as simply "The Frontier Card." Frontier Technologies went on to develop additional serial communication controllers and related TCP/IP and X.25 networking boards for AT&T, Apple and other large OEMs. As the industry moved towards the Microsoft Windows operating system, Frontier Technologies introduced the first TCP/IP capability for MS Windows. During this period, the Company also invested in OSI protocols (X.400, FTAM and TP4). However, as the industry accepted more of the TCP/IP standards rather than OSI, Frontier Technologies discontinued OSI development and heavily invested those resources into the TCP/IP area. Frontier Technologies was the first company to develop a TCP/IP solution for Microsoft Windows in such a manner that the TCP/IP program did not simply run in DOS boxes, but actually took advantage of the multi-tasking capabilities of Microsoft Windows with better performance than with the DOS operating system. Frontier Technologies began to sell the solution to both government and commercial users. The solution was well-integrated, easy to use and unusual. It won the attention of a large number of industry experts and began to win numerous awards and commendations. Frontier Technologies became the exclusive TCP/IP supplier of the unique SuperTCP for Windows product to the U.S. government under its multi-million dollar Desktop IV contract, together with our partners Zenith Data Systems and GTSI. Soon, major corporate customers began to license the new, award-winning SuperTCP for Windows.
