Battle Ground Academy is a college preparatory school dedicated to developing the intellectual, moral, creative and physical aspects of each student, and to assisting students in the realization of their potential for personal fulfillment and service to others. Our goals to achieve this mission: To prepare students with average to above average ability for college entrance and study through a comprehensive and rigorous academic program To foster the moral growth of students by ethical example and through the expectation of responsibility, integrity, and respect for the worth of each individual To nurture creativity and self-expression in all areas of school life, and to encourage participation in arts education and arts-related extracurricular activities To enhance the physical fitness of each student and to encourage participation in athletics To promote opportunities for each student to realize self-fulfillment and to participate in service oriented activities BGA, located in Franklin, Tennessee (about sixteen miles south of Nashville) is a college preparatory, day school, kindergarten through grade 12. BGA has a student body of about 950 students, and is served by approximately 90 faculty members, with Heads of each of the three divisions ó Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School ó and the President and Headmaster. Teachers are involved with students outside as well as inside the classroom. They can be found sponsoring clubs, coaching, and mentoring students in a variety of on- and off-campus activities. Founded in 1889, BGA has a long and rich heritage. Throughout its long history, BGA has fostered the moral growth of students by ethical example and through the expectation of responsibility, integrity, and respect for the worth of each individual. We provide a college preparatory curriculum, and we hold students and teachers to the highest level of expectations. Strong adult interaction with students and a nurturing, supportive community inspire the best in all our children. It has always been the aspiration of BGA to ready students academically, artistically, and physically for the challenges of the future while instilling in them a respect for enduring moral values. This tradition continues and is reaffirmed daily. We believe that the standards by which we teach and counsel, and that the goals for which we strive will enable BGA to continue in developing capable young men and women with a sense of responsibility and respect for themselves and for others.
