The first step a licensed engineer must take to become a professional is to pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. Students usually start preparing for the exam in the final year of their graduate studies or just after graduating. Students still in school should find it easier to prepare for the exam because they are working with the relevant information needed to pass the FE test. The computer-based FE exam is conducted by the NCEES all year round. The following areas of engineering are tested using the FE exam: Chemical, Civil, Electrical and Computer, Environmental, Mechanical, Industrial and Systems, and Other. FE exam review courses are available at the School of PE in all seven disciplines. FE review classes at the School of PE comply with the NCEES. Our programs consist of Refresher classes and Workshop sessions. The refresher classes cover all of the topics that will be on the exam. Sixty percent of the course is refresher classes.

Workshop sessions are focused on improving the problem-solving skills of students. These sessions allow students to practice and solve several problems that involve numerical calculations. Problem-solving is a critical aspect of FE exams.
