Description of Bowdoin International Music Festival

The Bowdoin International Music Festival is a six-week chamber music school and concert series that attracts musicians from around the world each summer. Is it a program of Bowdoin College? No it is not. The Festival is an independent nonprofit organization. Festival programs take place on the Bowdoin College campus, and most students eat and live there. What is the application deadline? Can I still apply if the deadline has passed? The application deadline for 2008 is January 31st. We will continue to accept applications after the deadline for studios that are not yet full. Can I apply online? Direct online application is not available. Application forms may be downloaded off this site; the MSWord file may be filled out and returned as an email attachment, however, applications are not complete until all materials are received in the festival office. How are students selected? How do I set up an audition? Students are selected on the basis of playing ability and repertoire. Auditions are by audio tapes or CD's. Because our faculty and students reside on five continents, it is impractical to set up live auditions. What are the application requirements? The application requirements are described in detail here. What are the ages of festival students? Festival students have ranged in age from 12 to 42. Typically, 25% of students are age 17 and under; 25% are ages 18-20; and 50% are over 21 years of age. Students under the age of 13 must live with their parents in rented, off-campus housing. Where will I live and eat when I come to Bowdoin? Students are housed on or near the Bowdoin College campus in residence halls and apartments. Apartments are typically reserved for students aged 21 and over. Students living in residence halls eat at Bowdoin's award-winning dining hall. Students in apartments can either cook their own meals or purchase the meal plan. How do I get concert information or tickets? Please call the festival office at (207) 373-1414 before June 19, 2008. Call the box office at (207) 725-3895 after June 9, 2008. If you would like to be included in the ticket mailing (due out in late April), please send us an email at info@bowdoinfestival.org.
