The Austin Museum of Art (AMOA) is dedicated to developing and educating a broad audience for the visual arts in Austin focusing primarily on 20th-century and contemporary art. AMOA was established in1961, when the Museum separated from the Texas Fine Arts Association (since renamed Arthouse) and the 1916 Clara Driscoll estate became known as Laguna Gloria Art Museum and began presenting exhibitions, educational programs, and art classes there. In 1995, the institution changed its name to the Austin Museum of Art (AMOA) and moved its primary exhibition space downtown to better serve all the people of Austin. Now one Museum with two destinations-the Austin Museum of Art takes pride in the important role it has played in the cultural life of the central Texas region for over 40 years.
