The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office is offering 5-to-7-year-olds an opportunity to sign up for its first RadKIDS® course to enhance the ability of children, parents and families to protect themselves from violence and harm, according to Sheriff Ken J. Mascara. "RadKIDS®" stands for "Resisting Aggression Defensively," said Sheriff Mascara. "The program is committed to providing education that enhances the ability of children, parents and families to use knowledge, skills and power to protect themselves from violence and harm. The program is dedicated to breaking the potential cycle of victimization by teaching children that no one has the right to harm them," Sheriff Mascara said. School Resource Deputies will teach the class. The program will run from March 31 , April 4 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Southern Oaks Middle School, 5500 N.E. St. James Drive, Port St. Lucie. Tuition is $20 for the first child and $10 for each sibling, and tuition is non-refundable. Class size will be limited to the first 20 children to register. Registration packets are available at St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office headquarters, 4700 West Midway Road, Fort Pierce, three miles west of U.S.1, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The registration deadline is March 28.
